Yvette (Couture) Simard, 82, beloved wife of Raymond H. Simard, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019 with her family by her side. She was born in New Haven, CT on July 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Adelmore and Angelina (Bernier) Couture. Raised in Bristol, she graduated from St. Anthony High School and soon after met and married Ray, the love of her life, on October 20, 1956. Yvette was a talented seamstress and spent many days in her sewing room creating and altering everything from wedding and prom dresses to Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Ann Parish, serving as a Eucharistic Minister and 6th grade CCD teacher and mentor. She retired from Superior Electric to begin her most important role as “Grandma Vet” to her 12 endeared grandchildren. She will always be remembered for organizing the annual “Couture Family Christmas Party.” Home and family were everything to her. She also loved her NY Yankees and UCONN basketball. In addition to her husband of 62 years, she will be missed by her 5 children and their spouses: Brian Simard and wife Marie of Burlington, Diane Wojtusik and husband Philip of Bristol, David Simard and wife Julie of Farmington, Debra Caruso and husband Richard of Harwinton, Gary Simard and wife Janique of Southington, and her grandchildren, Amanda, Molly and Sarah Wojtusik, Emma and Abby Simard, Steven, Laura and Thomas Caruso, Jaime, Nathan and John Simard. She will be reunited in heaven with her eldest grandson, Wyatt Simard, who passed in 2018. She leaves her sister Alice Szyszkowski, brothers Henry Couture and wife Judy, Gerard Couture and wife Mary Lou, Leon Couture and wife Sally, sister-in-law Barbara Couture, brother-in-law Joseph Zappone, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Yvette was predeceased by her brother, Paul Couture, a sister Jeannette Zappone and a brother-in-law Henry (Hank) Szyszkowski. Special thanks to the caregivers of Atria Farmington, Ingraham Manor and Bristol Home Care & Hospice for making her comfortable during her last days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 11:30 AM at St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol. Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol.
