Wendy E. Smith

Wendy E. Smith, 53, of Bristol, surrounded by the loving care of her family, passed from this life on Sunday evening, June 5, 2022 at Hartford Hospital.  Wendy was the beloved wife of Carl Smith and loving mother of son Joshua Smith of Orange County CA, and daughter Hayley Smith of Bristol. Wendy was born at Bristol Hospital on December 17, 1968 and was the caring daughter of Virginia (Bragg) Woodin and the late Charles Woodin. In addition to her husband, mother and children, Wendy is survived by her sister Lisa Burns of Wallingford, a brother Charles Woodin Jr. of Bristol, a sister in law June Smith of Bristol and a brother in law Dale Smith and his wife Lisa, several very special nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Kipper. It also goes without saying that Wendy has left an everlasting impression on so many friends, co-workers and acquaintances. Besides her father, Wendy was predeceased in life by her infant son, Tyler, a son she would mourn her entire life. Wendy was everyone's friend and was fiercely loyal and protective of her family and all that knew her. Wendy's strength sustained a ten year plus battle with Breast Cancer that very few knew. Wendy was intensely private and due to her protective nature, she literally battled cancer in silence. To understand why she did that was to know the authentic Wendy Smith. She was never one to bite her tongue and shared her opinions freely. You always knew where you stood with Wendy. Her capacity to love and care knew no bounds, often putting aside her own needs for the needs of others. Wendy was one of the most unselfish individuals we all came to know and love. When Wendy became your friend, you had an advocate and confidant for life. Her proudest moment was raising her children to become healthy and productive adults. She would never miss a sporting event, dance class or scholastic activity and was very involved with her children's education and overall well-being. Wendy was raised in Bristol and was a graduate of Bristol Central High School, class of 1986. Wendy enjoyed socializing and would often be at the center of family gatherings and picnics with friends. After marriage, she would choose to make a life for herself and her family in the very town she, herself, was raised. Ever the multi-tasker, Wendy would also become a modern career woman and mother having been employed by The Hartford Insurance Group, The Bristol Board of Education, Aetna and most recently PayFlex. While at The Board of Education she cared for children with special needs, another silent calling few knew. Vibrant and beautiful, she will live in our hearts forever.  All those who knew her will never forget her amazing eyes, her love of the beach, taking special trips and the occasional vacations. Wendy lived her best and most genuine life.

A Celebration of Wendy’s Life will be this Friday, June 10, 2022 from 10 to 12 Noon at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol. A funeral home service will take place at 12 Noon. Followed with interment in Peacedale Cemetery, 115-199 James P Casey Rd, Bristol.
