Ulderico “Rico” DiMattia, 88, of Bristol, beloved husband of Rosina “Ivana” (Pace) DiMattia, died on Wednesday (December 23, 2020) at Bristol Hospital. Rico was born in Pratola Pelinga Abruzzo, Italy on November 18, 1932 and was one of four children of the late Quintino and Maria (Pizzoferato) DiMattia. He arrived in the United States in 1947 and went on to serve in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his war service, he went to work on the bar line at New Departure for 39 years before retiring. He enjoyed swimming, taking many laps at the Giammatti pool, gardening, and was a fan of Cadillacs. He was a parishioner of St. Gregory the Great Church, Bristol. In addition to his wife of 60 years, he is survived by two sons: Danny DiMattia and Maria Saczawa of Bristol, and Dino DiMattia of Hilton Head SC, and Rebecca Howard; five grandchildren: Jeffery, Lauren, Joshua, Julia, and Alexandra DiMattia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three siblings: Salvatore “Victor” DiMattia, Attilio DiMattia, and Leonilde “Nina” Lucente. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (December 30, 2020) at 10:30 AM at St. Gregory the Great Church, 235 Maltby St., Bristol. Burial, with military honors, will follow in the State of Connecticut Veteran’s Cemetery in Middletown. There are no calling hours.
