Tribute

Theodore G. Ancher Jr., 70, of Edmond, Oklahoma, formerly of Upton, MA, passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, May 26, surrounded by his loving family. Ted was born on Jan. 26, 1952 in Bristol, CT, to Theodore and Theresa Pietrofesa Ancher. He was a graduate of Bristol Eastern High School, class of 1970, and was widely known as a tenacious and high-achieving student with remarkable talent both academically and recreationally, but most notably, photography. Ted began his long and illustrious career in photography directly after high school when he became one of the youngest news photographers the Bristol Press had ever staffed at only 18 years old.  His exceptional ability and dedication led to even greater success at the Boston Herald, where he would enjoy a 40-year career and attain numerous awards including the industry’s most coveted, New England Press Photographer of the Year and Boston Press Photographer of the Year, just to name a few. In addition to photography, Ted was an avid bass fisherman, authoring several books met with great success and high regard throughout New England. He was also a lifelong drummer, and music enthusiast.  Additionally, Ted had an ardent interest in numismatics, specifically US coins and paper currency, largely stemming from his childhood pastime of coin collecting. Above all else, however, Ted was a loving and attentive father to his two children, Teddy and Montanna. He would be the first to say nothing brought him greater joy than the experiences they shared together as children through adulthood. It was Ted’s role as father that will forever be his greatest achievement of all. Ted is survived by his wife, Donna, of Edmond, OK, his children, Theodore Ancher III of Edmond, OK, and Montanna Ancher of Los Angeles, CA, brother David Ancher and wife Anne, brother Eugene Ancher, beloved aunt, Jeannie Krusz, and a host of loving cousins and extended family. He is predeceased by sister, Roxanne Croce and her husband, Richard Croce.
