Shawn L. Hamel, 60, of Bristol, died on Wednesday (June 2, 2021) at Village Green after a courageous battle with cancer.
Shawn was born on July 22, 1960 in Bristol and was a son of Sue Ellen (Anderson) Shook of Hartford and the late David R. Hamel.
A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from St. Paul Catholic High School Class of 1978 where he played soccer and basketball. As a youth, he raced soap-box derby and was active with Bristol slo-pitch softball in later years. He worked for Total Access Construction and was an avid Grateful Dead fan.
In addition to his mother, Shawn is survived by a daughter, Shannon Hamel of Bristol; a brother: David “Tiny” Hamel of Alpine, WY; three grandchildren: Elijah, Everly, and Evan; his girlfriend, Michelle Gordon; half-brother: Jason Shook of Canton; and a niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Daryl Hamel.
Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Wednesday (June 9, 2021) between 11 AM and 12 Noon followed by burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
