Ruth (Nass) Johnson, 89, resident of Bristol, CT entered into eternal peace October 5, 2021 at Shady Oaks Assisted Living in Bristol. Ruth was born August 17, 1932 in Bristol and was the daughter of the late Albert Nass and Emma (Stockman) Nass. Ruth attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Bristol High School. She worked at Marlin Rockwell in Plainville where she met the love her life, the late Earle D. Johnson. They married January 18, 1958 at Immanuel Lutheran Church; they had one daughter, Lori.
Ruth and Earle were two peas in a pod, as a couple they were inseparable. In their early years, during the summer, Ruth and Earle enjoyed vacationing at Sebago Lake in Maine enjoying time with family and friends. They liked going for a quick bite to eat every Friday night and then Westfarms Mall for shopping and people watching. Earle would drive Ruth to church every Sunday and then the two would enjoy breakfasts at the Parkside where they met many friends. Later in life, they would attend the Southington summer concert series every Wednesday night; they had to get the same parking spot every week so they could watch from their car due to their age.
Ruth was never a woman who wanted to be noticed in a crowd, but she shined as a loving mother, wife, mother-in-law, and friend. She enjoyed working on puzzles and cross-stitching in her free time.
Once Earle passed in 2018 and now unable to attend church in person, Ruth would listen to the Sunday service of the Immanuel Lutheran Church on the radio, keeping with her faith. Ruth lived at home for a year and a half until her Parkinson’s disease became an obstacle, and she then moved to her new home, Shady Oaks Assisted Living.
The family thanks all the caregivers that cared for Ruth over the years: from Companions and Homemakers, Susan Palaia, Sarah Geary, Fran Marquis, and Janice Carr; the amazing Tyson Belanger of Shady Oaks who provided advice and assistance in the care of both Ruth and Earle, and the compassionate staff at Shady Oaks who tirelessly cared for Ruth and kept her safe from the Covid 19 virus. Along with Tyson Belanger, this includes Nikki, Faith, Kim, Maggie, Georgina, Michele, Sammie, and others who made Ruth’s last days and months comforting for her.
Ruth is survived by her devoted daughter Lori Ethier and her husband Tom of Torrington and her lifelong friends, “the girls,” Marilyn Dormody, Maureen Nadeau, and Loretta Teevan.
Besides her parents and Earle, Ruth was predeceased by her sister Jeannine R. Nass in 2004.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you send donations to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 154 Meadow Street, Bristol, CT 06010 or Shady Oaks Assisted Living, 344 Stevens Street, Bristol, CT 06010.
