Ronald Miecznikowski

Ronald Miecznikowski, 89, of Bristol, beloved husband of Helen (Zajac) Miecznikowski, died on Tuesday (October 22, 2019) at Bristol Hospital.  Ronald was born in Bristol on April 16, 1930 and was the elder of two sons of the late John and Bernice (Czaplicki) Miecznikowski.  A lifelong Bristol resident, he graduated from Bristol High School, then went on to college to obtain degrees toward a path as a science teacher from Trinity College (B.S.), University of Hartford (M.Ed.), Clarkson University (M.S.), and St. Joseph College (Sixth-Year Certificate).  He participated in National Science Foundation Programs at Yale University, Fairfield University, and the College of the Holy Cross to further develop his science background during the summer months.  As a chemistry teacher, he taught at Bristol High School and Bristol Central High School.  He also joined the faculty of Tunxis Community College when it opened and taught chemistry up until recently.  Overall, he taught for 62 years.  He also enjoyed the financial world as he intended a career on Wall Street and enjoyed doing income taxes for people and following the stock market.  Along with a science teacher colleague, Bruce Elliott, he helped found the Bristol Retirement Corporation in 1978 that helped teachers in Bristol set aside additional funds for retirement.  Proud of his Polish heritage, he worked as a Polish interpreter for the Connecticut Court system for over 17 years and enjoyed Polka music.  He was a member of the Bristol Polish American Citizens Club and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, Bristol.  In addition to his wife of 46 years, Ronald is survived by a son, John Miecznikowski of Bridgeport; a brother and sister-in-law: Richard and Mary Ann Miecznikowski of Bristol; two nieces, Susan Moreau and husband, Robert, and Ann Thompson and husband, Jason; great-nieces and great-nephew: Marissa and Ryan Moreau, Mary and Abigail Thompson.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday (October 26, 2019) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.  Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Friday between 5 PM and 7 PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West Street, Bristol, Connecticut 06010.
