Meegan Kathleen (Wright) Martin, 56, of Bristol, passed away on Monday (December 23, 2019). She was born on April 18, 1963 in New Britain to Diane (Segreto) Wright and the late Kenneth Wright. A graduate of Bristol Central High School, she was a lifelong lover of swimming and went on to a multitude of accolades in the sport. She was an All American at Central as well as in college at the University of Miami and Texas A&M, and set numerous records both at the high school and college levels. She was also a two-time Olympic Trial qualifier and was a member of the Miami team that won a conference title. She later returned to Bristol, founding the Bristol Splash swim team as part of Bristol Parks and Recreation, and taking on coaching positions at the Plainville Blue Dolphins, Central CT Aquatics Team, Bristol Eastern High School, St. Paul Catholic High School, and Southington YMCA. Meegan touched the lives of thousands of swimmers throughout her career. She was recognized for her contributions to the sport with her induction into the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame, and was the 2015 recipient of the Lydia Jabs Award for the Bristol Tramps.
Meegan was a loving mother, and is survived by her three children: James, Faith, and Lilly Martin. Fiercely loyal and protective of her children, she dedicated countless hours to supporting them through both swimming and professional careers, and was always there when they needed her. Their days were filled with laughter and love, expressed throughout hours of car rides to swim practices, visits to their homes in Boston and Florida, lunch dates, and ridiculous inside jokes.
In addition to her children, she also leaves behind her husband: Jim Martin; mother: Diane Connolly; sister: Patrice Heuschkel; nieces: Charlotte Heuschkel and Brooke Tankleff; nephews: Patrick Heuschkel and Mike Clausen; and a lifelong friend: Dan Krawiecki. Meegan loved her family beyond measure.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM on Monday (December 30, 2019) at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen St., Bristol. Entombment to follow at the Holy Family Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. There are no public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the St. Paul Catholic High School Athletics Department, 1001 Stafford Ave. Bristol, CT 06010.
