Tribute

Josephine Penta, 80, of Bristol, died on Monday (February 22, 2021) at LiveWell surrounded by her “second” family consisting of nurses and other staff members that worked tirelessly to give her life quality and comfort.
Josephine was born on June 18, 1940 in Bristol and was a daughter of the late Anthony and Concetta Patrone.
Josephine was a dedicated daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, teacher, and member of the Catholic Church. She was a resident of Bristol most of her life where she was a school teacher for over 30 years. During those years, she filled children with knowledge and discipline, so they could be successful when they left her classroom. After her retirement, she went on to teach at Bristol Adult Education where she was able to positively influence a new generation of students.
Her giving spirit was also seen with her commitment to St. Anthony Church, Bristol, where she was a CCD teacher for many years. In addition to her teaching, she was a Eucharistic Minister and frequent volunteer. She could always be seen at Bingo, the Italian Festival, and other events lending assistance when needed. She loved being part of St. Anthony Church.
Her greatest love, however, was her family. She treasured every minute with her mother, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, son, and grandchildren until the end of her life. When a family member needed help, she was always there doing what needed to be done. This dedication to family was instilled in her by her mother, Concetta, who also lived with the desire to help others.
Josephine is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Salvatore and Aileen Penta of Southington, along with her cherished grandchildren: Kathleen, Emily, and Anthony, and her very special great-granddaughter, Airiana Rose. She also leaves three loving sisters: Rose Szandarowsky, Anne Checovetes, and Vicky Ziotas; two brothers: Albert Bettua and Philip Patrone; several nieces and nephews, and a large extended family. She was predeceased by brothers: Anthony Bettua and Michael Patrone and sisters: Mary Iuppa and Nancy Culver.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday (February 25, 2021) at 10 AM at St. Anthony Church, 111 School St.., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. There are no calling hours.
