Josephine (Starego) Lewis, 91, of Bristol, widow of Paul Lewis, died on Wednesday (February 24, 2021) at Ingraham Manor. Josephine was born on June 14, 1929 in Bristol and was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Machlarz) Starego.
A lifelong Bristol resident, she graduated from Bristol High School. She loved going shopping and playing cards with her sisters. Summertime walks were her favorite, even when her grand dog Manny pulled her along. Josephine was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, Bristol.
Josephine is survived by her four children: Michael Lewis of Tampa, FL, Peter Lewis and wife, Laura, Patricia Mattero, and David Lewis, all of Bristol; a sister: Helen Rafaniello of Bristol; five grandchildren: Michael, Jonathan, Ryan, Morgan, and Anthony; six great-grandchildren: Ethan, Noah, Gavin, Skylar, Logan, and Leah; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters: Julia Ryan and Jean Baldaccini. We are so grateful for the care and compassion of all the nurses and staff at Ingraham Manor. The second-floor staff was her second family; everybody loved spending time with “Jo Jo” and making sure she was always happy and comfortable. They would take the time to play special music for her and even had nail polish sessions to brighten her day.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (March 1, 2021) at 10 AM at St. Joseph Church, 33 Queen St.., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. A walk-through visitation will be held at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Sunday between 2 and 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Southington, CT 06489-1052.
