Deacon John W. Makara, 76, of Bristol, widower of Frances (Fiorillo) Makara, died on Monday (January 18, 2021) at Bristol Hospital. John was born in Bristol on March 16, 1944 and was a son of the late John E. and Jane (Ozerhauski) Makara. Raised in Terryville, he graduated from Terryville High School and Central Connecticut State College with a BS and MS degrees in industrial education. He taught graphic arts at Bristol Central High School until retiring in 1998. Deacon John was ordained to the Permanent Diaconate with the Archdiocese of Hartford in 1987 and happily served the parishes of St. Anthony in Bristol, St. Casimir and Immaculate Conception in Terryville. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors, golf, gardening, and photography and was a parishioner St. Francis de Sales Parish devoted to St. Anthony Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday (January 23, 2021) at 10 AM at St. Anthony Church, 111 School St, Bristol. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum, Bristol. A visitation will be held at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, on Saturday at 9 AM.
