Joanne T. (Johnston) Deveau, 75, of Terryville, beloved wife of Roland J. “Jim” Deveau, died on Thursday (January 19, 2023) at Waterbury Hospital.
Joanne was born on July 30, 1947 in Caribou, ME and was one of four children of the late Wilford and Marie (Lagasse) Johnston.
She was raised in Caribou and lived until moving to Bristol in 1965. She worked for the State of Connecticut Department of Developmental Services where she supervised group homes in Bristol and Torrington.
She enjoyed reading and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved going on long rides with Jim and she loved her coffee. She was a collector of bells, thimbles, and wash basins.
In addition to her husband, Jim, Joanne is survived three children: Shannon Petke and husband, Jason of Bristol, Jason Deveau and Mary Obeid of Prospect, and Christian Deveau and LeeAnn Richardson of Bristol; a sister: Susan Martin of Gardiner, ME; six grandchildren: Olivia and Sophia Deveau, Raven and Athena Rayake, and Logan and Ethan Deveau; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers: Roger and Robert Johnston.
A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday (February 2, 2023) at 2 PM at Bethel Christian Church, 750 Stevens St., Bristol. She will be entombed at a later date in the Northern Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Caribou, ME.
