Gordon L. Sargent

Gordon Lawson Sargent, 76, of Otis, MA, longtime resident of Terryville, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.
Gordon was born May 8, 1946 in Pawtucket, RI, and was a son of the late Lawson and Cecile Sargent.   He grew up in the Bristol and Forestville communities where he was an active member of the Forestville Boy’s Club and grew up playing youth sports in Bristol.  Gordon was a member of the 1962 Post 2 American Legion Baseball team that won the Connecticut championship and competed in the New England finals.  He attended Bristol Eastern High school where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball.  In the 1964 Thanksgiving Battle for the Bell football game between Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern, Gordon ran for an opening game kickoff touchdown and still holds the record for most interceptions (3) in a Thanksgiving game.
After high school, Gordon attended Barber School, graduating in 1967.  In that same year he joined the Army National Guard, attending basic training at Ft. Dix, NJ, trained as a 94B cook and barber.
In 1969 Gordon married his high school sweetheart Pearl (Bilodeau).  The couple eventually settled in Terryville where they were active in the community and raised their two sons, Lawson and Cayle.  He joined Connecticut Light and Power as a meter reader and completed over 30 years of employment as a Line Mechanic, retiring in 2001.
The couple spent their retirement years living and working on their property in Otis, Massachusetts, but still kept their Bristol ties tight with friends and family.  Gordon was a lifelong dedicated Red Sox fan and rarely missed a game.   
Gordon is survived by his wife Pearl, their two son: Lawson and wife Denise, and Cayle and wife Elizabeth;  brother: Daniel Sargent and wife, Barbara, and sister Lisa Devoe and husband, Rodney, and their families.  Gordon was ultimately blessed by four grandchildren, Alexis, Kayden, Jude and Ian. 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (March 25, 2023) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Ann Church, 215 West St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM.  Burial, with military honors, will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
