Edgar J. Hamel, Jr.

Edgar J. Hamel Jr., 92, of Bristol, passed away surrounded by his loving family on, Wednesday, March 2, 2023. He was the loving husband of Theresa M. Hamel for 68 years who passed away June 18, 2022. Edgar, “Ed”, as known by all that loved him, was born in Bristol, March 21, 1930, the son of the late Edgar J. Hamel and Edith Harden Hamel. He remained a lifelong Bristol resident, attending all local schools. He served in the United States Air Force for four years, receiving a Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal, ROK, and Presidential Unit Citation. Part of his years served were dedicated to repairing combat fighter aircraft during the Korean conflict. Ed developed a reputation of being an innovator and fixer as he resolved complex problems. After serving in the Air Force, Ed’s technical training gave him the opportunity too work for Pratt & Whitney. Ed is survived by his five children, Edgar (Jay) Hamel of Plano, Texas; Susan Thiem and husband Michael of Bristol; Laureen Roberts and husband Ronald of Hilton Head, SC; Donald Hamel and wife Maria of Norwich, CT; Robert Hamel and wife Joann of Plainville, CT; ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; several nephews; a niece; cousins; and dear friends. Ed was preceded in death by his siblings Helen Hamel Rich, Lorraine Hamel Rulli, and Robert Hamel.
Ed’s family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 from 10 AM to 12 Noon at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol. Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
