Patricia and Family, I am very sorry and saddened that I was unable to be at Alfred's side during his last hours or to make the service on Saturday. Al was the greatest brother anyone could ever ask for, he would give you his shirt off his back if someone needed it. Even thou he was younger, he helped me many time throughout his life when the road was rough. Once it was easy for me to take family for granted without stopping to think what life would be like without each other. But as the years have gone by I've grown to realize that a family is one of the greatest treasures in the world, and I want you to know how grateful I am to have such a wonderful brother.

Dear Family,
I am sorry I could not attend the service today, I had a class that I prepaid for during the calling hours. My petition to God to take care of your beloved and for your comfort by friends and family at this time. Please know nothing meant more to Al than safe guarding his family and honoring your love and support thru the difficult years. He was an anchor for many peoples recovery because that was his lifesaver, I am so glad I walked part of the path with him. May his life always be the place that you see that what he lived is his spirit and is never going to die. Nothing can replace his presence, but his Spirit will last thru all those he touched forever. My prayers are with you.

Al began volunteering with the Soldiers’, Sailors’, and Marines’ Fund in 2013 and his patience and kindness eased the process for so many veterans and spouses. I was lucky enough to work with Al every Thursday for the past two and a half years. Al was a very compassionate man - he recognized when someone needed to talk and knew what needed be said. For the past year, despite being in pain, Al was determined to continue volunteering for SSMF. He fought his illness with courage and dignity. He will be missed by all our clients. I offer my sympathy to his family and friends - he was such a bright light and a joy to know. Al - Thursdays will never be the same and I will miss you always.

Al will be leaving a void at Veterans Strong Community Center. He always had a funny story or anecdote to share. He was always willing to help and educate other veterans. I'll miss his smile and stories, definitely his stories.
