Joyce Marie (McCarthy) Maghini, 86, of Bristol, beloved wife of Thomas L. Maghini, passed away peacefully on Sunday (March 31, 2024) at Bristol Hospital surrounded by her loved ones.
Joyce was born on October 12, 1937, in Bristol to the late John P. McCarthy, Sr. and Marie (Ryan) McCarthy. Joyce was the fifth out of ten children born into this loving family.
In addition to her adoring husband of 66 years, Joyce is survived and missed by two sons: Michael Maghini and wife, Lori of West Hartford and Paul Maghini and wife, Michele of Bristol. She will be forever cherished and remembered by her six siblings: Gary, Richard, David, Kevin, and Kathleen McCarthy, all of Bristol, and Brian McCarthy of Florida. Her memory will live on with her six grandchildren: Ryan Maghini and wife Christine, Caroline O’Day and husband, Ryan, Brendan, Matthew, Taylor, and Hannah Maghini. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren: Madeline and Avery Maghini, and Addison O’Day. A jewel in the crown of Joyce’s life was her extended family, which included many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three siblings: John P. McCarthy, Jr., Maureen Carter, and Geraldine Olson.
Joyce was a lifelong Bristol resident and a graduate of Bristol High School. She enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people over the years as she waitressed in local restaurants and worked in neighborhood businesses.
Her many connections resulted in long-lasting friendships which strengthened her roots in the community. Joyce was strong willed, determined, brave, generous to all, and loyal to whom she loved. She lived her life with grace and shared her sense of humor and infectious smile with many family members and friends during card games, dinners, and shows. Her internal calendar revolved around her annual trips to Maine, where she rejuvenated herself with delicious meals, shopping, laughter, and sunshine. To merely say that Joyce loved her family would be an understatement, as she proved this day in and day out through countless moments with her siblings, children, and grandchildren. Joyce was happiest being the hostess of holiday celebrations and was the spirit who brought everyone together. She was a road warrior when it came to supporting her grandchildren’s’ passions, traveling the East coast and beyond to cheer for football, baseball, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, and dance events. Joyce was a beautiful person inside and out. Her legacy will be all the heart she shared with friends and family, and the reminder that relationships are the best part of life.
Funeral Services will be held Monday (April 8, 2024) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Matthew Church, 120 Church Ave., Bristol for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM.
