Judy A. (McHugh) Murrone, 70, of Bristol, beloved wife of James Murrone, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in South Carolina.
Born on July 9, 1953, in Hempstead, N.Y., Judy was the daughter of the late Edward and Dolores (Merz) McHugh. A longtime Bristol resident, she graduated from Bristol Eastern High School.
Judy was a longtime employee at ESPN. She began her career in 1981 during the construction of Building No. 2 and served as the assistant to the Senior Vice President of Communications until her retirement. One of her many responsibilities included planning the annual employee picnic and Christmas parties for many years. One of her greatest joys was volunteering for multiple charity organizations, including the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce and especially the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, which honored her with a Humanitarian Award in 2011. She organized and participated in many fundraising events for the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, including their annual golf tournament held at Chippanee Country Club, where she enjoyed cruising the course on the golf cart, socializing with numerous friends and acquaintances (and possibly enjoying a Jell-O shot or two along the way).
Many of Judy's days were spent enjoying the beach, meeting friends and family for lunch or dinner, and savoring a good Dirty Martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives. Watching her grandchildren and great-granddaughter grow up brought her immense joy and happiness. They were the light of her life.
In addition to her husband, Judy is survived by two sons, Tobias Rinaldi and wife Kathleen, and Thomas Murrone, all of Bristol; two siblings, Penny Stefanski and husband David of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Tim McHugh and wife Lynn of East Haddam; three grandchildren, Tobias Rinaldi, Jr., Makenna and Domenic Murrone; a great-granddaughter, Genevieve Rinaldi; aunts, Sylvia (McHugh) Dupont and Cynthia (McHugh) and Leonard Correia; her mother-in-law: Patricia Murrone; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (April 22, 2024) at 12 Noon at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home before the service on Monday between 10 AM and Noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, 255 West St., Bristol, CT 06010.
